High-field magneto-Raman spectroscopy at NHMFL

ORAL

Abstract

Raman spectroscopy is a powerful optical technique providing insight into the structure and physical properties of quantum materials. At National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL, Tallahassee, FL), we developed several Raman spectroscopy setups coupled to powerful DC field magnets. Specific magneto-Raman capabilities will be presented including a free-space low-frequency (down to 6 cm-1) system and a fiber-based setup enabling spatially-resolved magneto-Raman experiments at high magnetic fields up to 31T and low temperatures (down to 2K or 0.5K, system dependent). The system characteristics and performance will be illustrated using recent magneto-Raman studies of low-energy excitations in quantum magnets. See https://nationalmaglab.org/user-resources for information on applying for magnet time.
