Magnetic Quantization of SnTe Slabs with Various Orientations and Terminations

Oral-In-person

Abstract

We investigate the electronic band structures and magnetic quantization of SnTe slabs with (100), (110), and (111) orientations by using a tight-binding model. For each orientation, we examine how different surface terminations (Sn- or Te-terminated) modify the electronic structure relative to the bulk. The reduced dimensionality and broken mirror and inversion symmetries lead to remarkable energy shifts and hybridization-induced splittings of the surface-state bands. Under a perpendicular magnetic field, the resulting Landau level spectra exhibit orientation- and termination-dependent features that reflect these symmetry-breaking effects.
