Modeling Backgrounds for the Operation of Superconducting Qubits and Sensors at CURIE
ORAL
Abstract
The Colorado Underground Research Institute (CURIE) is a new shallow underground research facility offering a low background environment for performing basic science research. CURIE is located in the Edgar Experimental mine, providing shielding of approximately 415 m.w.e. and a 700x reduction in cosmogenic muon flux. For development of superconducting qubits and novel detectors, it is necessary to understand the relative contributions of backgrounds in the laboratory facilities. In this talk, results of modeling of the 222Rn decay chain background, cosmogenic muon secondaries, muon-induced radioactivity and radiopurity of the experimental set-up are discussed. We welcome new collaborations and users for this facility.
