Elevators trnsport objects/humans from one floor to another in a finite time. Considering the system as a mechanical engine, two aspects of the performance of the engine are studied in the high friction limit. We found the output power to be maximum when the load of the transported objet is half that of the load of the lifting agent. In addition, a quantity called optimized efficiency of the engine takes maximum when the load to be transported is 3/4th of the load of the lifting agent.
