A review of Mixed Reality Technologies to Increase Physics Comprehension
ORAL
Abstract
There has been a great increase into the research and use of Mixed Reality (MR) Technolgies in the classroom in recent years. MR refers to the combination of vitrual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). While there are many inconclusive results when applying MR to the classroom, there are some instances where MR shows promise of increasing comprehension for physics topics. most notably, MR offers the advantage of displaying 3D fields in real time. This paper covers the essentials of using MR in the classroom, including software and hardware requirements; a review of MR educational research for the sciences, where MR is and is not useful; and finally a review of research that show promise of increasing comprehension in topics that are typically more challenging to students, such as electromagnetism.
