ORAL
Abstract
Amy Flatten is the Director of International Affairs for the American Physical Society (APS). Prior to APS, she served for 5 years in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. She also has held positions with high-tech companies in the private sector. In her various career roles, she has developed international scientific exchanges, collaborations, and partnerships with physicists around the globe and has managed international S&T initiatives involving government, academia, and industry on behalf of the U.S. President's Science Advisor during both the Clinton and Bush Administrations. In her talk, she will highlight how roles in government, professional societies, and industry placed her in positions of strategic decision-making—from advising senior policymakers to shaping international exchange for the physics community. She will discuss how leadership outside the laboratory can influence scientific priorities and expand global opportunities for researchers. Her talk aims to inspire physicists to view policy, diplomacy, and organizational leadership as powerful avenues for impact.
