Benefits of Science Outreach in Rural Communities: The Angelo State Peer Pressure Team

ORAL

Abstract

In May 2006, the Angelo State Society of Physics Students Peer Pressure Team embarked on a week-long journey to visit a number of schools in rural West Texas. Many of the schools have small student populations and limited resources for encouraging students toward careers in science and technology. The goal of our outreach program is to provide excitement and enhance attitudes about science in general, with a focus on encouraging underrepresented populations. We will present the details of our week long trip and discuss the perceived effectiveness of our efforts.
