Report on Experimental Upgrades of Phonon Imaging Apparatus Used in Measurements of Ballistic Phonons through Superconducting Sn Crystals

Abstract

This presentation discusses work done to upgrade the performance of a phonon-imaging apparatus. Fabrication and testing of a sample holder used to perform the experiment, and the creation of C{\#} programs to interface galvo-mirrors through a D/A convertor is discussed. We performed a preliminary phonon imaging experiment with a 1mm single crystal sample of Sn, but recorded no measurable ballistic phonon flux.
