Physics Faculty Involvement in Physics Teachers' PD: Implications for Experiential STEM Faculty Development Model

ORAL

Abstract

This work is founded on research of physics faculty engagement with an intensive, year-long, sustained, high school physics teacher training program (STEM Teaching Equity Project), and effects of such engagement on faculty’s instructional and assessment practices at the university level physics courses. By utilizing a community of practice approach to train high school physics teachers in physics content, university faculty had an opportunity to develop and perfect their own instructional skills and implement these in their university level courses. This research led to the development of an experiential STEM faculty professional development model, which has potential for transferability to other STEM disciplines.
