Women in Physics at the University of North Texas

POSTER

Abstract

Gender inequality remains a significant issue within the scientific community, particularly in the underrepresentation of women within the physics community. According to data from the American Institute of Physics (AIP), 24% of all physics bachelor's degrees and 19% of all physics Ph.D.s awarded are by women. As well as the fact that only 20% of physics faculty members are women. To fully harness scientific progress, achieving gender equality is paramount. Thus, it is crucial to inspire young female students to explore the field of Physics and connect with women researchers in the discipline. To address this, we launched a Women in Physics Group within the University of North Texas Physics Department. Currently, women make up just under 30% of students in the UNT Physics department, and we aspire to bolster this figure by reaching out to female students from local community colleges who harbor an interest in Physics.
