Using Surface Temperature Data to Teach Data Time Series Analysis

Students in Time Series and Dynamic Modeling classes require real time data to experiment with as they learn time series analysis techniques. Surface temperature data records provide an excellent sorce of data for students to work with while learning these techniques. At the same time, students are provided with an opportunity to learn about climate physics and climate modeling. This paper presents the examples of using surface temperature data to teach various linear regression, seasonal, and periodic techniques for the analyzing the data using R and Python.
