Physics and the Brain, a new way to teach physics and neuroscience

ORAL

Abstract

We have created a one semester undergraduate course, Physics and the Brain (PATB), which teaches auditory neuroscience and the fundamental physics that describes it. The course was designed using education research based pedagogies such as SCALE-UP. It was broken into a series of modules which highlight different parts of the auditory pathway. For each module, a specific auditory neuroscience topic was introduced, then class time was spent using foundational physics to model that aspect of the auditory system. In this presentation we will discuss the course design, implementation, successes, and lessons learned.
